Information released following shooting in Cork on Friday night

The shooting occurred on Friday night.

Gardaí at Watercourse Road are appealing for information following a shooting incident in Ballyvolane in Cork.

At approximately 7.40pm on Friday night, a 41-year-old man was approached by a lone gunman and shot a number of times as he alighted from a car in the Chapelgate area of Ballyvolane on the north side of Cork City, according to Gardaí.

It’s understood that the gunman fled from the scene on foot.

The injured man was initially treated at the scene by members of the Southern Region Garda ASU (Armed Support Unit) before he was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital.

The injured man remains in Cork University Hospital where he is understood to be in a stable condition.

No arrests have been made to date and enquires are ongoing.

The scene is currently preserved for examination by local scenes of crime officers.

An incident room has been established at Watercourse Road Station where a case conference was held by investigators this morning.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in Chapelgate area between 7pm and 7.45pm to come forward, they are also appealing to anyone with camera footage (including dashcam) from the area to make it available to investigators.
