Heartbreaking news.

Ireland AM chef, Joe Shannon, has sadly died after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Shannon was diagnosed with bowel cancer back in 2021 and was given the all clear. Despite this a few months later, Shannon fell ill again.

The celebrity chef from Sligo was open about his journey and treatment during his cooking segments on the show.

Sadly, Shannon passed away at the North West Hospice earlier today (Monday March 4).

Ireland AM chef Joe Shannon has died.

His death notice reads: “Joe Shannon, Milltown, Drumcliffe, Co. Sligo, March 4th 2024 peacefully surrounded by his family in the loving care of the staff at North West Hospice, The Mall, Sligo. Dearly loved husband of Marie and father of Orla, Emer and Joseph.

“Sadly missed by his loving wife and family, brother Michael, sisters Elizabeth (Yates), Bernadette (O’Donnell) and Dolores O’Boyle, sons-in-law Sean Gilligan and John Divers, grandchildren Leroy and Lewis, relatives, neighbours and many friends.”

Last year, Shannon told Ireland AM viewers that he didn’t know how long he had to left to live, adding that he wasn’t scared of death.

More specifically he said: “It could be one year, it could be seven years.

“It all depends how my body takes to the chemotherapy, because it’s a big ask of my body to continue with that.

“But that said, there are lots of people who have had chemo for 15 years or more.

“And who’s to say that in that time some new piece of research may come along? But if it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen – I’m not scared of death.”
