Ireland is currently the fastest country in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) for Covid-19 vaccinations.
The country also ranks 12th in the 38 OECD member countries in terms of vaccines administered.
The figures, which compare the seven-day rolling average of the 38 countries in the OECD, show that Ireland, in the seven days up to 18 July, has been vaccinating 1.24% of the population per day, or 8.68% in the last week alone.
It comes as the Covid-19 vaccine portal is set to open for people aged 18 to 24 to register for the AstraZeneca vaccine from today (19 July).
Speaking to Newstalk on Sunday, HSE CEO Paul Reid asked younger cohorts to “mind themselves and protect themselves in the coming days and weeks” as Ireland’s vaccine rollout continues to progress.
“They are the new vulnerable groups because they aren’t vaccinated,” he said.
Reid added that the portal should open for the 18 to 24 age group to register for AstraZeneca in a vaccine centre by Monday and for an mRNA vaccine by “the end of this month”.
25 to 29-year-olds can also register to receive an MRNA Covid-19 vaccine at a vaccination centre as of last week.
The portal will open for those aged 29 at first and will open up to each of the other age groups over the subsequent days.
Everybody aged 30 to 69 who has yet to receive a Covid-19 vaccine can also register for the jab.
18 to 34-year-olds can also currently register to receive the Janssen vaccine at their local pharmacy.
To register online for a vaccine, you will need a mobile phone number, an email address, your PPS number and your Eircode.
If you do not have these things, you are advised to call the Covid-19 helpline to register by phone instead.
