Strong words…

The Social Democratic and Labour Party leader (SDLP), Colum Eastwood, has said that there is a special place in hell for those who call for a border poll with no idea how to deliver it.

Speaking to Fianna Fáil delegates at the party’s Ard Fheis in Dublin on Saturday, Eastwood spoke about the possibility of a border poll in this country.

He said: “There will be a special place reserved in hell for those who call for a border poll in Ireland with no plan and idea.

“We recognise the deep divisions that exist across our community and we know that it will take real leadership to begin to bring our communities together.”

During a passionate speech, Eastwood said: “Both the SDLP and Fianna Fáil are coming together to ensure that we return to the vision we imagined and built some 21 years ago. We will fight to ensure that government returns to the North and that our people are no longer left voiceless and powerless.”

The SDLP posted updates from the speech on their official Twitter account throughout the day.

Just last week on Clare Byrne Live, a poll revealed that 63% of people want to see a united Ireland before they die, with just 18% of people saying they would not like to see Irish unity happen, while 19% said they didn’t know.
