WATCH: “Derry Girls is the closest I’ve seen to a hard border” says audience member at Claire Byrne Live

Derry Girls Claire Byrne

Powerful stuff from this young woman.

During a segment of Monday night’s episode of Claire Byrne Live, the topic of discussion was Brexit, especially in relation to how it will affect people in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

When the subject of a potential hard border came up, a young woman in the audience spoke about how it would affect her and her age-mates.

She said: “A lot of this has been about the older people, like. I was born in 1999, the Good Friday Agreement was in forever over a year before I was born.

“I have known nothing about a hard border, only Derry Girls. That’s the closest I have seen to a hard border. And that’s the same as so many people under the age of 25.”

She went on to talk about the many people she knows from Donegal who go to college in Derry, Belfast and other places, and how their lives may be affected in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

Take a look:

This wasn’t the only moment of note on last night’s episode of the show.

Claire Byrne’s brilliant reaction to bizarre claim by DUP MP Sammy Wilson was also a particular highlight of the night, which you can see here.

A poll on the show also revealed that 63% of people want to see a united Ireland before they die, with just 18% of people saying they would not like to see Irish unity happen, while 19% said they didn’t know.
