Conor Heneghan

Terrible news.

A crew member from the Irish Coast Guard has died and two other crew members have been taken to hospital after their vessel overturned during a search operation in Clare.

According to RTÉ, the three Coast Guard crew members, all of whom were based at Kilkee in Clare, were involved in an ongoing search mission for a missing man from Lisseycasey when their rigid inflatable boat (RIB) overturned off the coast near Kilkee.

A search operation, involving a rescue helicopter from Shannon and another unit from Kilkee, was conducted soon after the boat overturned and the Irish Coast Guard confirmed that one of the crew members had passed away.

The other two crew members involved were taken to hospital and their condition is not known at this point.
