High praise for three of Ireland’s biggest universities.
Trinity College Dublin, University College Cork and University College Dublin have all been included in a list of the 100 most innovative universities in Europe.
2017 is the second year in which the list
has been compiled by Reuters, a list which identifies and ranks the educational institutions doing the most to advance science, invent new technologies, and help drive the global economy.
For the second year running, the number one spot is occupied by KU Leuven in Belgium, home to one of the largest independent research and development organisations on the planet.
Three colleges in the United Kingdom, two universities in Switzerland and Germany and one apiece in France and the Netherlands make up the top ten, with Trinity, UCC and UCD ranking in 60
th, 75
th and 98
th respectively.
While Ireland has only three universities on the list, Reuters concludes that with a population of less than five million people, we can boast more top 100 innovative universities per capita than any other country in Europe.
On a per capita basis, for example, none of Germany, France and the United Kingdom have half as many top 100 universities as Ireland.
