Irish teenager dies Lanzarote

Tragic news.

An Irish teenager has died following an accident while holidaying in Lanzarote.

It was first reported on Tuesday morning that a 15-year-old boy was in critical condition as a result of falling from a height of up to 15 feet.

The incident occurred in Lanzarote’s Avenida de las Playas in Puerto del Carmen just before 4am on Monday.

The circumstances surrounding the fall have not been confirmed.

As of Tuesday evening, RTÉ News reports that the unnamed teenager has died after sustaining a serious head injury, citing a statement from the Doctor Jose Molina Orosa Hospital in Las Palmas.

It is understood that the boy suffered cardiac arrest before being revived and taken to hospital, where he later passed away.

An initial report by the regional government-run emergency services coordination centre did not confirm the teenager’s nationality, though local press described him as Irish.

Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs later confirmed the teenager’s nationality.

The Department is currently offering consular assistance, as per a statement issued to JOE.
