According to a statement issued by the Regina Police Service (read in full at the bottom of the page), Shannon drove his vehicle into the front doors of the bank, smashing through them in the process, and then exited the car carrying a firearm.

When an attempt to enter the bank’s vault proved unsuccessful, he then returned to his vehicle and left the scene before he was later accosted by police, who eventually carried out an arrest having been physically assaulted by Shannon.

The Regina Leader-Post report that Shannon appeared in court by closed-circuit television from the Regina Provincial Correctional Centre on Tuesday.

Having learned the Crown was opposed to Shannon’s release, his defence lawyer Barry Nychuk, speaking to the matter on Shannon’s behalf, asked to put the matter over to Wednesday afternoon.
