It looks like passing higher level exams in the Leaving Cert is going to get a lot easier

Proposals will be discussed

The plan could be in place this September.

This year’s Leaving Cert starts on June 3, so students all over the country are currently studying hard and cursing the fine weather.

Every student will have a different points targets, so doing higher level and ordinary level will be down to the individual.

However, a new proposal by Minister for Education Jan O’Sullivan might entice more kids choose to do higher level.

The Minister wants to lower the pass level to 30% instead of 40% which it’s currently at, but it’ll stay the same at ordinary level so you’ll still need 40% there to pass.

So, CAO points will be awarded if you get between between 30 and 39 per cent at higher level. That is very enticing.

The idea behind it is that more people will do higher level and be less worried about losing out on CAO points for failing.

According to The Irish Times, the proposed changes could come into effect for Leaving Certificate students in 2017.
