“Too many families have suffered trauma already this weekend.”

An Garda Síochána and other Emergency Services are appealing for the public to drive safe over the Bank Holiday Weekend following a string of deaths over the past few days.

A significant number of fatal incidents have occurred across the country between Thursday (2 June) and Saturday (4 June).

Among them include the discovery of a body in the Kerry mountains, and five deaths on the roads in four separate incidents, including three motorcyclists.

All incidents remain under investigation and will result in files for local Coroners.

Family Liaison Officers have been appointed to grieving families to support them following the fatal tragedies.

“In the last 72 hours my colleagues in An Garda Síochána and in the other Emergency Services across the country have responded to a number of tragic fatal incidents,” said Assistant Commissioner Paula Hilman, with responsibility for Roads Policing and Community Engagement.

“Too many families have suffered trauma already this weekend.

“No matter what activity you are taking part in this weekend, please take care. Please ensure that you are following all the appropriate safety advice.

“If you are travelling on our roads I appeal to drivers, ‘please slow down’ and ask all road users to take care over the remaining days of this Bank Holiday Weekend.”
