Man charged in connection with fatal stabbing attack at Kerry funeral

The man will appear in court on Friday.

A man who was arrested in connection with a fatal assault carried out at a funeral in Kerry earlier this week has been formally charged.

The man, aged in his 30s, will appear before Kenmare District Court on Friday morning, 7 October.

On Wednesday morning, Gardaí and emergency services attended the grounds of Rathass Cemetery in Tralee following reports of an altercation involving a group of people.

A man in his 40s was discovered with serious injuries as a result of a stabbing attack. He was pronounced dead at the scene by ambulance personnel.

The victim was later named locally as Thomas Dooley and his body was taken to University Hospital Kerry.

A woman in her 40s, Dooley’s wife Siobhán, was also transferred to the same hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigating Gardaí continue to appeal for witnesses to the incident to come forward and for any person with camera footage to make it available to them.
