The comedy music biopic about the Belfast trio soared at this year’s awards.

The Kneecap movie has won four of the ten craft categories at this year’s British Independent Film Awards (BIFA).

The biopic about the hip-hop trio from Belfast lead the winnings at the year’s awards, the ceremony for which takes place next month.

Directed by Rich Peppiatt, the feature, which is also Ireland’s submission for the Oscars international film race, took home Best Casting, Best Editing, Best Original Music, and Best Music Supervision for Chris Welch and Jeanette Rehnstrom.

Additionally, the film led nominations at the awards with 14 including best British independent film, director, screenplay and joint lead performance, closely following by ‘Love Lies Bleeding’ with 12 nominations and ‘The Outrun’ with nine.

The movie follows the rise of the Irish speaking group consisting of Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, Naoise Ó Caireallain and JJ Ó Dochartaigh.

Rated a huge 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, critics raved about the film, with Ed Power from the Daily Telegraph commenting: “Hard-punching and cheerfully riotous, the film directs a well-placed kick at the nether regions to anyone who insists music, politics and cinema cannot mix.”

The main BIFA awards ceremony will be held in London on December 8, where the winners of the performance, directing and writing awards will be announced.
