A sad day.

The home of some of Ireland’s most popular children’s TV shows such as Bosco and Wanderly Wagon has confirmed that it is to close its doors.

Founded by Eugene Lambert in 1972, it was Ireland’s only purpose-built puppet theatre, and it was home to all of Ireland’s most famous puppets.

Lambert’s daughter, Paula, went on to voice Bosco himself, and his son has been the theatre’s director for a number of years.

Liam Lambert gave an emotional interview on Morning Ireland on Wednesday where he spoke about how much he loved the theatre.

Speaking about how fulfiling he found the job, Lambert said: “My father used to say we are in the business of creating happy childhood memories. And I always took that to heart.”

In 2015, 300 puppets were destroyed in a blaze that Lambert described as an “enormous blow.”

Lambert claims that it reached a point where it was just too difficult and too expensive the maintain the building.

Despite the emotional nature of the interview, the company do hope to continue putting on shows as they tour Ireland.
