Very handy for shoppers.

Lidl has announced a partnership with Buymie, an Irish start-up which provides an online grocery delivery service around Dublin, and it’s set to make shopping at home far more convenient.

Essentially, Buymie will operate in the same way that Deliveroo does for the restaurant trade.

Customers can use the Buymie app to make an order at Lidl and pay online. The app’s algorithm sends the order to a nearby personal shoppers that has been given guidance and support by Lidl on how to best select the fresh and high quality produce available in store.

The app also allows customers to include specific notes or preferences on their orders.

Delivery times will be starting at one hour and it’s the first time that Lidl customers have an online delivery option.

The minimum order will be €20, with delivery charges ranging from €6.99 for one hour to €3.99 for three hours. Delivery fees are waived for orders above €100.

After a successful pilot launch in selected Dublin postcodes last year, Lidl and Buymie have now expanded the service citywide.

Lidl customers using the Buymie app can choose from Lidl’s full range of products available in store, except on non-food weekly specials and promotional food themes which are available for a limited period in stores.

Speaking at the announcement of the new service, Alan Stewart, Head of eCommerce at Lidl Ireland said: “With customer experience, quality and value at front of mind, our decision to partner with a dedicated on-demand service provider, Buymie, allows us to continue to invest in our expanding network of stores and also provides a real differentiator in the online grocery delivery market by ensuring the fastest delivery option in the Dublin area with a premium personal shopper service through our delivery partner.”

Devan Hughes, CEO & Co-Founder of Buymie added: “In recent months the Buymie and Lidl teams have worked together to develop a fully integrated premium experience for Lidl customers. This partnership is a first of its kind in Ireland and has truly raised the bar for the entire industry when it comes to speed and personalisation in grocery online.”
