Flanagan appeared in court on Tuesday afternoon.

Liverpool footballer Jon Flanagan has pleaded guilty after being charged with assaulting a woman.

As reported by the Liverpool Echo, the defender appeared in court on Tuesday where he entered a guilty plea to common assault of Rachael Wall.

Flanagan, 25, was arrested in the early hours of Friday 22 December in Liverpool city centre. He is accused of assaulting Ms Wall by beating, which carries a maximum of six months in jail.

The court was told of a “prolonged assault with more than one incidence of violence” and it was noted that both parties are still in a relationship.

Flanagan will be sentenced on Wednesday 17 January.

A Liverpool FC spokesman said:

“The club has been made aware of an alleged incident involving a member of the first team playing squad. We will be making no further comment on the matter while the process is ongoing with the relevant authorities.”
