Man shot dead by police following number of stabbings in London

Police are treating the incident as terror-related.

Following on from reports that London Bridge was closed off due to an incident on Friday afternoon, UK Metropolitan Police have confirmed that one man has been shot.

Police were called to the scene of a stabbing at a premises near London Bridge just before 2pm on Friday.

Emergency services attended alongside officers from both the Metropolitan and City of London Police.

It has been confirmed that a number of people were stabbed. Police intend to provide further details of those injured when possible.

One man was shot by police at the location.

Speaking outside the New Scotland Yard building on Friday, Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu stated that the suspect died at the scene.

Basu also noted that a device strapped to the body of the suspect is believed to be a hoax explosive device.

“At this early stage, the circumstances relating to the incident remain unclear,” notes an official statement released by Metropolitan Police.

“However, as a precaution, we are currently responding to this incident as though it is terrorist-related.”

Met Police also noted that they are aware of social media footage surrounding the incident and have asked people to not share any video or imagery that may identify the police firearms officers involved.
