Looking for a new start? ESB and Eir are on the lookout for new apprentices

Two of the biggest electricity and telecommunications companies in Ireland are on the lookout for apprentices, with applications for positions in eir and ESB now open. Eir announced plans to hire up to 50 new apprentices to strengthen its workforce on Thursday morning as it continues to roll out its broadband network across the country. Apprentices who are taken on stand a good chance of getting full employment as all 120 apprentices who have so far been hired as part of the eir programme are still with the company, two years on. Eir’s apprentice programme is open to candidates who have passed their Leaving Certificate; this year’s programme will commence in September and run for two years. The primary focus for apprentices will be on the maintenance and repair of equipment in eir’s network in a structured two-year programme that will provide on-the-job learning, one-to-one coaching and formal classroom training. Successful applicants will also receive a Level 6 QQI award. Applications are open until April 8 and interested parties can find out more on the Eir website and on Twitter, using the hashtags #lifeateir or #talentrisesateir. ESB, meanwhile, have also revealed that their apprentice application process is now open. The programme for an Apprentice Electrician/Network Technician offers on-the-job learning and classroom-based learning and successful applicants will gain experience working indoors and outdoors. As well as learning electrical and practical skills, apprentices will obtain a QQI Advanced Level 6 Electrical Trade Certificate.
