The incident is being treated as a double murder and suicide.

Gardaí in Kerry have said there are “a lot of unanswered questions” as they have commenced a criminal investigation into the death of a Kerry family on Tuesday night.

An investigation is underway after the bodies of three people with gunshot wounds were discovered following an incident at a domestic residence near the village of Lixnaw.

Gardaí attended the scene and located the body of a woman in her 50s and a man in his 20s inside the dwelling.

The body of a man in his 60s was also discovered outside at the rear of the dwelling. All three bodies have gunshot wounds.

A firearm was also recovered at the scene.

The three people whose bodies were found at the scene have now been named locally as Eileen O’Sullivan, Mossie O’Sullivan and their 24-year-old son Jamie O’Sullivan.

The bodies of all three have been removed to University Hospital Kerry, where post-mortem examinations will soon take place.

There is no known motive at present for what is being treated by Gardaí as a double murder and suicide.

In a statement on Wednesday night, Gardaí in Listowel confirmed they had been alerted to the incident via a phonecall from a neighbour of the family at around 8.30pm on Tuesday.

The State pathologist and the Garda Technical Bureau have been contacted and the scene is currently preserved while investigations are ongoing.

An Garda Síochána are not looking for any other person in relation to this incident.
