Louise McSharry 2FM exit interview

“It is cowardice of the highest order and I won’t allow it to be spun into anything else.”

Former RTÉ 2FM presenter Louise McSharry has hit back at the station following reaction to a recent interview she gave discussing her exit in detail.

Last month, McSharry spoke to the Irish Independent, noting that she felt “like a piece of trash that had been used up and was being thrown away” upon learning last October that her contract would not be renewed following an 11-year run.

In that conversation, McSharry explained how she received a phone call from her agent to inform her of the news.

She went on to state that she hadn’t “heard one single world” from her former employer in the months since.

A new interview with 2FM boss Dan Healy published by the Irish Independent on Friday has resulted in some notable dispute.

“When we sit down with people like Louise or Keith Walsh, these are very tough decisions,” said Healy.

“In November, I was speaking to four or five people in one week to say, ‘There’s going to be a change here.’

“And then something happened to me beyond my control, in terms of communication, and there’s nothing I can do about that and it’s out.”

Responding to the interview via a series of tweets on Friday morning, McSharry reiterated that she was not communicated with directly regarding the decision to not renew her contract.

“The entire point of my interview was that they didn’t sit down with me,” McSharry wrote. “No one spoke to me at all. THAT’s what I was upset about.”

Elaborating further, McSharry said that she did not receive a phone call, text or email from management in relation to the situation.

“I read in the paper at the time that RTÉ wish me well,” she said.

“I read today in the paper his thoughts on the matter. This is not an acceptable way to treat people, no matter what industry you work [in].

“It is cowardice of the highest order and I won’t allow it to be spun into anything else,” McSharry added.

“My issue has never been about my contract not being renewed. That’s part of the job.Sometimes your contract isn’t renewed.

“But the lack of communication and any care whatsoever for someone who’s been part of the organisation for 11 years is unacceptable and can’t continue.”
