Gardaí have opened an investigation following an incident of alleged assault that took place on a Luas in Dublin earlier this week.
The incident is understood to have occurred on the red line on Tuesday, 20 December at approximately 11.30am.
As the Luas came to a halt at the Jervis stop in Dublin's city centre, a male passenger departed the tram and allegedly threw an item which struck a female passenger on her head.
The man, who is aged in his early 30s, was arrested a short time later. He was taken to Store Street Garda Station where he was subsequently charged with public order offences.
He is set to appear before a court at an undisclosed later date.
Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses to assist with their investigation. Anyone who travelled on the Luas in question on Tuesday morning and who may be able to provide relevant information is asked to contact Store Street Garda Station on 01 666 8000.
Alternatively, people may contact the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
