Man arrested following armed robbery with machete in Cork

The incident took place on Sunday evening.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested by Gardaí following an armed robbery that took place at a service station in Cork city.

Shortly after 5.30pm on Sunday (17 November), a man armed with what has been described as a machete entered a service station on Blackrock Road.

He subsequently threatened staff before leaving on foot with a tray from a till, which contained a sum of cash and receipts.

Nobody was injured during the incident.

After the alarm was raised, Gardaí and armed detectives managed to arrest the suspect near the vicinity of the service station a short time later. A sum of cash was also recovered.

The man is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 for questioning at Bridewell Garda Station.

Investigations are ongoing.
