Man in his 30s dies in hospital following assault in Sligo

Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses.

A man has died in hospital following an assault that occurred at Rockwood Parade in Sligo on Tuesday (19 April).

Shortly after 6pm, emergency services attended the scene and treated the man in his late 30s for an apparent head injury and he was taken to Sligo University Hospital.

He was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where his condition was described as critical on Wednesday night.

On Thursday morning, a Garda spokesperson confirmed that the man has since passed away at Beaumont Hospital.

A post-mortem will now be conducted, with Gardaí saying its results will direct the further course of the investigation into the assault.

Investigating Gardaí continue to appeal for witnesses to the incident come forward.

Any person who was in the Rockwood Parade area on Tuesday evening from 5pm to 6.15pm and any person who may have camera footage, including dashcam footage, from the location at the time of the incident is urged to speak with Gardaí.
