A man in his 30s has been arrested following an alleged assault on two people who were out canvassing with Sinn Fein leader, Mary Lou McDonald.
The incident happened yesterday at around 4pm on the North Strand Road in Dublin 1.
A video which has been circulating online shows canvassers standing between McDonald and a man who was verbally abusing her and other members of the group.
He can also be heard threatening to hit McDonald and others.
McDonald was out canvassing in support of Catherine Connolly's presidential bid.
A garda spokesperson said that while no medical treatment was required at the scene, one of the females attended the Matter Misericordiae University Hospital for further assessment.
The man, who is in his 30s, is being detained at a Garda Station in the Dublin Metropolitan Region.
