Seamus Daly, a high-profile republican, has been charged this evening with the murder of 29 people in the 1998 Omagh bombing.
Daly, who was found liable for the bombing in previous a civil case, was arrested by the PSNI in Newry on Monday. Tonight he was formally charged with 29 counts of murder, two charges linked to the explosion in Omagh and two further counts regarding an attempted explosion in Lisburn.
The Omagh bombing took place in August 1998 and was the single deadliest terrorist attack in Northern Ireland. Almost 16 years on from the atrocity nobody has yet been convicted of the bombing in a criminal case.
Daly, from Monaghan, will appear in court in Dungannon tomorrow.
