The incident took place last night, Sunday December 22.
A man in his 40s has died after a fatal road traffic incident in Kildare yesterday, Sunday December 22.
The incident occurred around 8pm, and it is believed a car entered the Grand Canal at Grangeclare West, Kilmeague.
The man was recovered from the water and treated by crew from the National Ambulance Service.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene and a post mortem is set to take place.
The scene is currently being held for examination by Forensic Collision Investigators and the Garda Water Unit.
Additionally, access along the canal at this location is currently restricted.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward, especially those with camera footage, including motorists with dash-cam, from the area at the time.
