Man dies following road race incident in Westmeath

Tragic news.

A 34-year-old man has died following an incident at a motor cycle road race event in Westmeath.

The incident happened at the Walderstown road races at approximately 11.30 on Sunday morning.

The man, who was from Northern Ireland and was taking part in the event, was airlifted to the Mater Hospital in Dublin where he died.

Gardaí are at the scene and are investigating.

The event has been abandoned and Garda forensic collision investigators are examining the crash site.

The coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

A file will be prepared in accordance with the Coroners Act.
