A man has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in Laois on Saturday (16 July).

Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the scene at approximately 3.30pm.
The man in his 60s got into difficulty while swimming at Derryounce Lake in Portarlington.
He was taken from the water and removed by ambulance to Portlaoise General Hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time later.
In a statement to JOE, An Garda Síochána said it is treating the matter as a tragic accident, and that a file is set to be prepared for the Coroner.
