Man in his 80s stabbed at his home in Louth

The incident occurred on Saturday.

A man in his late 80s has been stabbed in his home in Louth on Saturday afternoon.

The man in question has been taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

Gardaí confirmed that they are investigating an assault incident at the house at Sandy Lane, Blackrock, near Dundalk at around 2.50pm.

His injuries are understood to be serious, and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.

It is understood he received the stab injuries after what was described as an altercation with another male.

A technical and forensic examination of the scene is currently underway.

No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.
