Mayo is mourning the tragic passing of Ger Brady who represented his county at underage and senior level.
Brady, from Claremorris, died yesterday at the Mayo Hospice following a battle with motor neurone disease.
His illness came to public attention last February when a fundraiser, Together For Ger, was launched.
He was diagnosed back in August 2022.
Mayo manager, Kevin McStay, was a strong supporter of the fundraiser and brought it to the attention of TG4 viewers when his team beat Kerry in the spring.
He said: "An old friend of Mayo, I just want to mention Ger Brady. I just want to wish him well from everybody in our squad. I managed him under-21, a tremendous fella. We just want to wish him the very best. We're thinking about him and wishing only good things for him."
McStay also referred to Brady as a "tough cookie" and a "great competitor".
Responding to the news of his death, Mayo GAA wrote: "Mayo GAA wish to express our sympathy to the family of the late Ger Brady RIP Claremorris GAA Club."
Claremorris GAA added: "Everyone here at Claremorris AFC are extremely saddened at the news of Ger Bradys passing.
"While primarily known through GAA circles, Ger was also an accomplished Soccer player and played for our Underage and Masters teams.
"Our deepest condolences go out to the extended Brady and Bell families."
Brady, who started at full-forward, made his debut for Mayo against New York in 1999.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Karen, his son Dylan, his parents, and many other relatives and friends.
