Met Éireann issue nationwide weather warning

Carl Kinsella

The concept of “New year, new me” does not apply to Irish weather, apparently.

Met Éireann have issued another status yellow weather warning for the entire island of Ireland this afternoon.

The latest warning, which comes into effect at 5pm on Tuesday evening, forecasts “West to Southwest winds of mean speeds 55 to 65 km/h, gusting to 90 to 110 km/h, will develop on Tuesday evening, continuing through Tuesday night and Wednesday. There is the potential for even stronger winds developing locally or a time on Tuesday evening, with damaging gusts.”

There is also a warning for anyone spending any time near the coasts: “Very high seas along Atlantic coasts, with a risk of coastal flooding.”

At the moment, seven counties are currently in the middle of a separate wind warning. Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare and Kerry are experiencing high-speed gusts until 4pm today.
