Snow and ice is expected. Take note.

While parts of Ireland have enjoyed some relatively decent weather this afternoon, Met Éireann have stated that people living in Wicklow, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo should take heed of a status yellow warning for snow and ice.

The warning was issued at 13:00 on 2 April and it’s in place from 22:00 on 2 April until 11:00 on 3 April.

With regards to the conditions, the warning states that “wintry showers leading to possible snow accumulations and icy conditions” are expected.

Elsewhere, there are two separate status yellow marine warnings in place too.

In terms of the forecast that’s being predicted for tonight and tomorrow, Tuesday evening will see overnight showers and gusty northwesterly winds.

Hail, sleet or snow is also expected in some places with a continuing risk of thunder too. However, these showers will tend to become confined to western and northern coastal counties and parts of the east coast.

Frost and ice stretches are set to develop with lowest temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees Celsius.

As for tomorrow, the frost and ice will clear in the morning with bright and sunny spells expected. It’s set to be largely dry in parts of the east and southeast, but there will be scattered showers of rain or hail elsewhere.

Outbreaks of rain will move in across Ulster and east Leinster during the afternoon, pushing down into remaining areas later in the day.

There’s a chance of some sleet falling on higher ground too.
