Paul Moore

‘Tis fierce windy.

Met Éireann have issued a status yellow wind warning for Ireland as they expect southeasterly winds to reach mean speeds of 45 to 60km/h with gusts of 80 to 100km/h, strongest at the coasts. The warning is in place until Friday morning at 06:00.

In terms of marine weather warnings, a gale warning is also in place due to these south to southeast winds that will occasionally reach gale force 8 at times on Irish coastal waters from Fair Head to Carnsore Point to Loop Head.

Regarding the weather forecast for the next few days, the rain is expected to retreat to Ulster at first tonight, and it will be clearer for a time across the rest of the country.

Another band of rain should develop in the southwest before midnight, however, this rain will spread countrywide overnight.

Thursday morning should be be wet and blustery with outbreaks of heavy rain in places.

The afternoon and evening will bring heavy showers and longer spells of rain with southeast to southwest winds increasing. Winds are expected to be strong and gusty throughout, reaching gale force at times, especially in coastal areas of Munster and Leinster.

The strongest winds will transfer to western and northern coasts tomorrow evening.

Thursday night should continue to be windy with heavy showers and strong winds. The showers will become confined to the west coast overnight though and the winds should ease.

On Friday, heavy rain will extend northwards over east Munster, Leinster and east Ulster with a risk of spot flooding and turning wintry at times in the evening and night. It will be drier to the west and north with just a few showers.
