weather warning

It gets grimmer and grimmer by the day.

Barely an hour has gone past this week without Met Éireann having to issue some form of weather warning and another one duly arrived this morning.

At the time of writing, shortly after 10am on Thursday morning, there are three weather warnings in place, with Met Éireann issuing the latest one at 9am.

That status yellow weather warning is an update on a previous one issued earlier in the week and warns of winds of up to 110 km/h in Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick.

The warning came into effect at 9am on Thursday and will remain in place until 4am on Friday morning.

Three of those counties – Donegal, Galway and Mayo – along with Leitrim and Sligo, are affected by a status yellow rainfall warning in place until 1pm on Thursday, while a status yellow snow-ice warning for the entire country remains in place until 8pm on Thursday evening.

Mercifully, as of now, the forecast is for plenty of dry weather with winter sunshine on Friday, but with temperatures due to drop to as low as -2 on Friday night, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that another warning will be issued over the coming days.

Fingers crossed we’re just getting all the bad conditions out of the way well before Christmas.
