Yiannopoulos confirmed the decision in a statement on Tuesday evening.
Ultra conservative writer Milo Yiannopoulos has resigned from right-wing website Breitbart News following his controversial comments about paedophilia.
In footage which appeared over the weekend, Yiannopoulos was heard discussing the merits of sexual relationships between adult men and boys aged as young as 13 and was dismissive about paedophilia within the Catholic Church.
Yiannopoulos’ comments provoked a storm of criticism and despite attempts to defend himself on his Facebook page, he was criticised by Alex Marlow, the editor in chief of Breitbart, who labelled his called comments “indefensible” and “appalling.”
According to the New York Times, publisher Simon & Schuster also announced that they would be cancelling the publication of his book, Dangerous, as a result of the comments.
Yiannopoulos announced his resignation from Breitbart in a statement on Tuesday evening, which read: “I would be wrong to allow my poor choice of words to detract from my colleagues’ important reporting, so today I am resigning from Breitbart, effective immediately.
“This decision is mine alone,” he added.
