Calling all motorists...

Did you know that since 2004 there have been over 300 collisions between the Luas and motor vehicles in Dublin, 95% of which have occurred solely on the Red Line? One of the worst affected areas is the junction between Blackhall Place and Benburb Street (see below). So a new automated camera has been set up on the junction with the purpose of catching motorists that break the red light. Screen Shot 2015-06-04 at 12.38.39 RTÉ News reports that anyone caught breaking the red light on Blackhall Place and Benburb Street will “automatically receive three penalty points and a fine of up to €120.” The camera is directly linked to the Gardaí’s PULSE camera system and, much like a speed camera, it will automatically take a picture of the offending car if it’s found to be breaking the lights.
