The victim was aged in her 80s.
An arrest has been made following the discovery of the body of a woman at a residence in Dublin on Wednesday, 13 April.
Gardaí attended the scene of the incident at the residence on Seville Place in Dublin 1 at approximately 11.50am on Wednesday.
A woman, aged in her 80s, was located inside the property with fatal injuries.
A woman aged in her 40s has been arrested on suspicion of murder in relation to this incident.
She is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Store Street Garda Station.
The scene at Seville Place has been preserved so that a technical examination may be carried out by the Garda Technical Bureau.
The office of the State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem examination is scheduled to be carried out later on Wednesday.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have information relevant to the investigation to contact them.
