The Brazilian woman was aged in her 30s.

A murder investigation has been launched following the discovery of a woman's body at an apartment in Limerick.

The woman, aged in her 30s, was found dead at an apartment on Lower Cecil Street on Friday morning, August 21.

She has been named locally as Jady Cristine Pereira Rosa, originally from Brazil.

Her remains were taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick, where the State Pathologist conducted a post-mortem examination.

The results of the post-mortem are not being released for operational reasons and the scene remains preserved for a technical examination.

Ms Pereira Rosa was understood to have been working with a cleaning company in Limerick and had a wide group of friends in the area.

Councillor Elisa O'Donovan led tributes for the woman, describing her as a 'valued and loved member of our wonderful and diverse Limerick City community'.

"Yesterday she was found dead in our city, a city she called home and should have felt safe and protected in. I am thinking of all her friends and family today.

"I have placed a tribute at her home on Lower Cecil Street. Her death in her home in our city will not be forgotten."

A GoFundMe page has also been set up to help cover the costs of repatriating Ms Pereira Rosa to São Paulo, as well as paying for her funeral.

Her loved ones wrote: "Today we come together for a reason that no one would want to face. Our beloved Jady, a Brazilian woman living in Limerick, Ireland, had her life tragically cut short.

"In this time of profound grief, we want to help her family so that she can receive a dignified farewell in her home country, surrounded by those who love her."

An Garda Síochána is now carrying out a murder investigation and are following a line of inquiry.

A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Henry Street Garda Station.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Henry Street Garda Station (061) 212400.
