Day 2 of the National Ploughing Championships has been cancelled due to bad weather caused by Storm Ali.

The second day of the National Ploughing Championships had originally been set to welcome the public on Wednesday morning at 9am.

On Tuesday night it was announced that the start would be delayed until 11am on Wednesday. By this morning, the start time had been pushed back as far 12pm. However, due to the effects of Storm Ali, the entire day has had to be cancelled.

The event, which is being hosted in Tullamore, is due to finish up on Thursday (September 20).

Storm Ali has forced Met Éireann to issue a status orange wind warning for 17 counties, and 140,000 homes and businesses are currently without power.

Furthermore, a woman has died in Galway after her caravan blew off the side of a cliff while she was still inside.
