400 construction jobs to be created by huge expansion of Google data centre in Dublin
The work will take approximately 16 months to complete.
Google is set to invest €150 million into its Dublin based data centre, which will bring the total amount invested by the company in Ireland up to €1 billion.
The investment is set to create at least 400 jobs in the 16 months that it will take to complete work on the data centre; when construction work will begin on the development has yet to be revealed.
Today also saw the release of a report stating that the Google data centre has supported 4,900 jobs directly and indirectly since 2011, and that it has represented a €350 million direct investment in construction and operations, as well as contributing €400 million to Ireland's GDP.
Commenting on the announcement on Tuesday, Heather Humphreys TD, Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation said: “15 years after first establishing an office here in Ireland, today’s announcement is a testament to Google’s ongoing commitment to Ireland as a key hub for its operations.
"This €150m data centre expansion brings the company’s total investment in its Irish data centres alone to €500m and its capital expenditure to almost €1bn. There is no denying that this is a considerable vote of confidence in Ireland as a place to do business".
