No deaths due to Covid-19 have been recorded in the last 24 hours.

This evening’s briefing by the National Public Health Emergency Team has confirmed that there have been no further deaths due to the virus in the last 24 hours.

Ireland’s known death toll due to the disease remains at 1,763. Yesterday, nine deaths were reported, eight of which occurred between April and June.

Additionally, 20 new cases of the virus have been reported to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre, which brings Ireland’s known number of Covid-19 cases to a total of 25,845 (taking into account one denotification).

Dr. Ronan Glynn, Acting Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, said today: “COVID-19 is a highly infectious disease that is still circulating in our communities. It is a dangerous illness that no-one wants to catch.

“While we have reason to be positive, we now need to continue to work together towards our collective goal of resuming healthcare services, reopening our children’s schools, and protecting the most vulnerable.

“The past weeks have shown that when we maintain physical distance, wash our hands, wear a face cover where appropriate and cover our coughs and sneezes, together we can interrupt the spread of COVID-19. Let’s keep going.”

Speaking earlier today, Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly suggested that Ireland’s R0 number had fallen to around 1.1.
