North Korea claims to have tested its most powerful nuclear bomb yet

Carl Kinsella

Just a tiny bit worrying…

North Korea claim that they have tested their first hydrogen bomb, roughly a month after announcing that they had finally developed such a weapon.

Up until now, the notorious rogue state had only tested atomic bombs – and even then with limited success.

Hydrogen bombs do exponentially more damage than atomic bombs while weighing far less, so if North Korea has indeed developed the technology to produce hydrogen bombs, it is likely that the outside world will begin to view Kim Jong-un with far greater hostility.

It is also notable that such a test is in breach of many UN resolutions prohibiting nuclear proliferation.

It will be days, if not weeks, before it can be independently verified that North Korea’s claim is true, but a 5.1 magnitude quake was detected close to its nuclear test site at Punggye-ri – suggesting that a test did indeed take place.
