The Northern Lights are expected to be visible from Ireland tonight

This is very cool.

Astronomy Ireland have informed people that a geomagnetic storm is currently in progress, and that it will be visible from Ireland on Saturday night.

A message posted on their Facebook page read: “A geomagnetic storm (G2 Class ie visible from all Ireland) is in progress now.

“Watch the Northern Lights low on the Northern horizon from the time it gets dark possibly all night!”

A geomagnetic storm is a temporary disturbance of the Earth’s magnetosphere caused by a solar wind shock wave, and it’s not an every day occurrence that you can see anything of the likes from Ireland.

Astronomy Ireland urged people to get in touch with them if you can see anything from your area.

They also said that the best place to see the spectacle is somewhere where there is no other lights above you.
