Norwegian Air confirm details about ultra-cheap US flights from Dublin, Cork, Shannon and Belfast

A one-way trip to the US for €69 doesn’t sound bad at all.

Norwegian Air have officially announced details of ultra-cheap flights to the United States from Ireland, starting in July.

The Norwegian announcement had been widely anticipated and was confirmed on Thursday morning as the airline revealed details of 10 new routes and 38 weekly transatlantic flights from Dublin, Cork, Shannon, Belfast and Edinburgh.

The flights will serve three destinations on the east coast of the United States, New York, Boston and New England, operating out of smaller airports in the US that carry significantly lower landing charges that, in turn, allow Norwegian to lower their fares.

The three airports in question – Stewart International, Providence Rhode Island and Bradley International – are all located within two hours of either New York or Boston.

Fares from Dublin, Cork (the first ever transatlantic flights from the airport) and Shannon will start at €69 one way from July 1 and are now on sale on the Norwegian website. Fares from Belfast and Edinburgh will start at £69 one way.

There will be 12 transatlantic flights per week from Dublin Airport, five per week from Belfast and four per week from Shannon (all serving New York and Providence), while there will be three flights a week from Cork, all serving Providence.

Norwegian’s official announcement has been welcomed by Tourism Ireland.

CEO Niall Gibbons said: “Today’s announcement is excellent news for tourism to the island of Ireland for 2017. We look forward to working closely with Norwegian to maximise the promotion of these new routes from New York and Providence.

“As an island, the importance of convenient, direct, non-stop flights cannot be overstated – they are absolutely critical to achieving growth in inbound tourism. Tourism Ireland is committed to working with Norwegian, as well as with Dublin, Belfast, Shannon and Cork Airports, through co-operative marketing, to drive demand for these new flights.”
