O say can you see… JOE’s favourite versions of the American national anthem

'Murica'

Alan Loughnane

We love ‘Murica here at JOE and to celebrate the 4th of July, we have decided to create a little montage of the funniest versions of the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ ever performed.

Some of these are staged and from films, while others are simply awful all on their own. Enjoy.

Alexis Normand spectacularly bombs the national anthem during the 2013 Memorial Cup, although in her defence, she is Canadian.

This piece comes from the movie Naked Gun where actor Leslie Nielson performs his own version of the anthem. It’s almost better than the original.

Our personal favourite from the list, this poor girl forgets the words and has to run to get her notes and then…. Just watch what happens next.

Family Guy manages to scorn the anthem like only Seth MacFarlane can.

Michael Bolton famously wrote the words on his hand, yet managed to forget them and make it blindingly obvious at the same time. Vintage Michael.

Borat Sagdiyev angers a hostile rodeo crowd with his mockery of the Star Spangled Banner. Technically not the American anthem but we make our own rules here at JOE.

Olympic medallist Carl Lewis starts off bad and finishes even worse. Stick to the day job, pal.

We love a Simpson’s reference in JOE and this Bleeding Gums Murphy version is a classic.
