A single Quick Pick ticket sold at Obama Plaza in Moneygall, Co Offaly, has scooped Saturday night's €8.22 million Lotto jackpot, the National Lottery has confirmed.
The winner has already come forward, and arrangements are being made for them to collect the life-changing prize. The win brings the number of millionaires created through National Lottery games so far this year to 19. More Irish stories are in our Irish news section. The win was reported by The Journal.
Pat McDonagh, founder and managing director of Supermac's and the Plaza Group, said: "It's wonderful to think that someone simply dropping in has had their life changed forever. Everyone here is hugely excited by the news and we would like to congratulate the winner of this incredible prize."
McDonagh said the team were "absolutely thrilled" to learn the winning ticket had been sold at the plaza. "We hope they take the time to enjoy the moment, celebrate with their loved ones and make the very most of this life-changing win," he added.
Lottery bosses are urging players across the country to check their tickets carefully, with a new millionaire minted in the midlands.
