A man has died and another has been left injured following an assault at an IPAS centre in Kerry.
The incident occurred shortly before 5.30am on Saturday, October 31, which Gardaí and emergency services responded to following reports of a disturbance at a residential property in Ballymullen, Tralee.
One man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Another man, aged in his 40s, was taken to University Hospital Kerry where he is being treated for injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
A man, also aged in his 40s, was arrested at the scene in connection with the investigation and is currently being detained at a Garda station in Kerry.
The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified and the Garda Technical Bureau has been requested to attend.
The scene is being preserved for forensic and technical examination and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed and an Incident Room is being established at Tralee Garda Station.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information that may assist the investigation to contact Tralee Garda Station on 066 7102300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
"And I also would ask people that they allow the gardaí to carry out their investigation and they refrain from speculation or from the spreading of unverified information. Violence or the spreading of unverified information has no place in our lovely town in Tralee."
