Legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara has accused Ryanair staff at Dublin Airport Ryanair of 'discriminatory and threatening behaviour' towards him and his family.
Sangakkara and his family were flying from Dublin to Bristol when the incident, allegedly related to visas, is said to have occurred.
Taking to X, the Sri Lankan cricketer turned commentator posted: "Has anyone experienced discriminatory gate personnel Ryanair in Dublin?
"I with my family just did and it was shocking. The tone of address and the mishandling of procedure and threatening behavior."
"Unacceptable for any passenger. First bad experience in Dublin."
Sir Lankan businessman Sanjiva Weerawarana replied to say he had "experienced discrimination in every part of the west", the 49-year-old replied: "It is quite jarring when you experience it."
The post, which has since been viewed nearly four million times, gained the attention of controversial TV broadcaster Piers Morgan who said the behaviour must have been "shameful".
"Rarely met a more decent, dignified man than Kumar.
"For him to say this, it must have been truly shameful behaviour. I hope you [Ryanair] deal with this urgently and properly."
As reported by The Mirror, Ryanair has issued a statement regarding the incident, stating: "This passenger refused to provide the required visa documentation when requested by a gate agent carrying out mandatory immigration checks.
"Following completion of these checks and verification of this passenger’s eligibility to travel, this passenger travelled on this scheduled flight from Dublin to Bristol (28 Oct)."
