Boat named MV Oliver Cromwell sinks into the Irish Sea

Unfortunately, we do not have any footage of Cromwell’s last moments…

On the same historic day that Ireland appear to have voted to repeal The Eighth Amendment, a ship with the name MV Oliver Cromwell has sunk.

The vessel began sinking on Friday about 12 miles west of South Stack near Holyhead, Anglesey.

The paddle steamer and riverboat hotel sunk off the north Wales coast while it was being towed to Northern Ireland. You couldn’t make this up…

Luckily, nobody on board was injured, and no pollution was caused.

Holyhead coxswain Tony Price said: “It was very sad to see such a lovely vessel sink like that, but fortunately no one was endangered and the lack of fuel on board meant there were no environmental issues”, according to BBC.

Richard Clements, the company’s managing director stated that: “We were looking to forward seeing the vessel getting a new lease of life in Northern Ireland and are very upset that this will no longer happen.”

The boat will not be making a trip to go to “hell or Connacht”, as it had sunk long before it was given the option.
