The heatwave is well and truly over, for now at the very least.

Early on Saturday afternoon, the Met Office issued a status yellow rainfall warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Derry and Tyrone.

As of 2pm, that warning has been officially upgraded to orange level status in Antrim, Armagh, Down, Derry and Tyrone and is valid until 5pm on Saturday.

The previous status yellow warning remains in effect until 7pm on Saturday evening.

The Met Office warns people in the above counties to expect outbreaks of heavy rain and occasional thunder.

Flooding of homes and businesses is likely and could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater and lightning strikes.

Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, delays and some cancellations to train and services are to be expected.

Spray and sudden flooding will likely result in difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

The Met Office also warns of power cuts and other services to some homes and businesses potentially being lost in the event of heavy inclement weather

Met Éireann, meanwhile, issued a weather warning on Friday affecting 26 counties which expired on Saturday morning, but not before ruining the view of the spectacular blood moon on Friday night.
